On April 6, 2024, Actian released a new simplified pricing model and price list for the Actian Zen product line. These changes take effect as of April 15, 2024, providing limited time to evaluate how these changes may affect your organization and its use of the Actian Zen product line, so please read through this information carefully. Due to the extremely short time-line of these changes, as well as the huge scope of the changes, we will be unable to update all of our web sites in a reasonable time frame. As such, all orders may need to be telephone orders only until we are able to complete the needed web site overhaul.

I am providing only the facts provided by Actian WITHOUT interpretation on this page. The frequently asked questions (FAQ) list at the bottom will be updated as more information is available.

IMPORTANT: Actian has declined our requests to be able to post the new price list, so this document serves more as a discussion of the new licensing model instead. Yes, I am aware that the new pricing takes effect on April 15, which has already past, but Actian has not yet given us any further direction.

Actian Zen v15 Standard Server Perpetual License

The Standard Server Perpetual license supports a maximum of 8 cores and is licensed by concurrent user for "non-commercial" use. Pricing is per server for the specified user count. These base licenses can be combined with User Count Increase licenses (below) to make larger systems available.

• Zen Server perpetual license will require purchasing support to receiving patches (minor releases).
• Maintenance and Support does not include upgrades to newer major versions.
• AuditMaster and DataExchange must be purchased for the same core count as the Zen Server.

Actian Zen v15 Standard Server User Count Increase Licenses

The base licenses (above) are NOT stackable. To increase your user count, you must purchase additional "User Count Increase" (UCI) licenses to add to your base license to make larger user counts. This means that if you wish to obtain a 26 user license, you would purchase a 20U "Base" license, a 5-Pack UCI, and a 1-User UCI for the server.

Actian Zen v15 Standard Server Support Option

The above licenses include the core database engine code at the time of your purchase only. They do NOT include patches or updates (now called "minor releases"), but Maintenance and Support is available at a separate cost.

• Zen Server perpetual license requires M&S for receiving patches (minor releases).
• Support must be purchased for all users of the same version.
• Maintenance and Support does not include upgrades to the Major versions.

Actian Zen v15 Commercial and Cloud Server Perpetual License

The Commercial and Cloud Server Perpetual license supports a varying number of cores and users, and your server needs to be licensed for both. These base licenses can be combined with User Count Increase licenses (below) to make larger systems available.

• Commercial License is required for OEM/ISV and also replaces the Cloud License use case.
• Server Core pricing model bundled with X Concurrent Users (Unlimited Data).
• Additional user bundles can be purchased.
• Zen requires both a Server License (Minimum of 4 cores) and Concurrent User License.
• Additional discounts available for volume purchases.
• Subscription License options available upon request.

Shipping and Taxes

Actian stopped production of the Media Kits, so all licenses are now delivered as electronic downloads only. If you prefer a paper copy, please request a copy of the license document and label when ordering. Sales taxes will be charged for all IL and IN destinations, unless a proper tax exemption form is provided. All other destinations will be responsible for self-assessing sales taxes where applicable.

Q: Where is the Workgroup Engine?
A: The Workgroup Engine pricing model is being discontinued.

Q: Where is the Zen Edge Engine?
A: The Zen Edge Engine pricing model is being discontinued.

Q: Where is the Zen Insurance Licensing?
A: The Zen Insurance Licensing is being discontinued.

Q: Where is the Licensing for Active-Passive Clusters?
A: The Zen APC Licensing is being discontinued.

Q: Where is the Zen Cloud Server Engine?
A: The Zen Cloud Server will be replaced by the Commercial and Cloud Server License, which also offers SaaS deployment solutions. Licensing will no longer be by data size, but rather by concurrent users and cores only.

Q: What is the difference between the Standard Server and the Commercial and Cloud Server?
A: They include a different use case license. At this time, there is only one code base for the Server Engine, so we will have to see how this gets done.

Q: What use cases require the Commercial and Cloud Server?
