Pervasive.SQL 2000i Product Information
First Customer Ship: | September, 1999 | End of General Availability: | January 1, 2003 | End of Support: | July 1, 2004 |
Goldstar Software will continue to provide services for and to support this product release for as long as we can, and will sell licenses
only while we still have them in stock. Of course, we do urge all Pervasive.SQL 2000i users to begin migration plans to a newer release.
Pervasive.SQL 2000i is available in 3 client/server flavors and two local engines:
- Pervasive.SQL 2000i Server Engine for Windows NT, NetWare, or Linux: Provides
client/server database technology for Windows NT-based or Novell NetWare-based networks. License counts available
are 10, 20, 50, 100, and Unlimited, or any combination thereof -- but you must specify the server platform. Client
components are provided for DOS, Windows 16-bit, and Windows 32-bit applications.
- Pervasive.SQL 2000i Workstation Engine: When you just have one workstation
running an application, the stand-alone workstation engine is the most economical choice. This 32-bit engine can
use used on Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4 systems to run 32-bit applications, but it can also run 16-bit
Windows apps, as well as DOS-based apps via the DOS-box requester. Note that only ONE workstation engine can open
a given database file at a time.
- Pervasive.SQL 2000i Workgroup Engine: While Btrieve 6.15 provided Multi-Engine
File Sharing (MEFS) for peer-to-peer and low-cost multi-user access, the Pervasive.SQL 2000 did not have this option.
The new WGE brings back the peer capabilities by implementing a mini-client/server configuration for use in smaller
networks where the cost of the server-based engine may be prohibitive.
- Pervasve.SQL 2000i Software Developers Kit: This SDK provides developer tools and sample code, in addition to online
documentation, ActiveX Controls, a 3-User license for the Pervasive.SQL 2000 Workgroup Engine, and a single-user version of the I*net Data Server.

Released in 1999, the FCS (First Customer Ship) product build offers a complete re-write of the SQL engine from PSQL7. Gone is the old Scalable SQL database engine, and it has been replaced with the SRDE.
If you are running the 7.50 code (FCS), then we strongly recommend upgrading to the latest patches, if possible.

[+] Frequently Asked Questions About Pervasive.SQL 2000...
Q: Is PSQL2000i still supported?
A: Pervasive Software stopped supporting this engine on July 1, 2004. Goldstar Software continues to support it for our customers.
Q: What is the difference between the Workstation, ther Workgroup and the Server Engine?
A: The Server engine is for multiple, concurrent users. The Workstation engine can be used by ONE user at a time, with no data sharing. The Workgroup Engine supports sharing of data in small workgroups, of up to 3 users.
Q: Are licenses for PSQL2000i still available?
A: We sometimes have limited licenses available for some configurations, used best for adding more users to an existing installation.
Q: Are there features of the engine that would prevent me from upgrading to a newer release?
A: Usually, no. The engine in PSQL2000 and the engine used in the current releases are very similar to each other. We do recommend testing your app with the latest release.
